06/21/04 - FAN RATS / USASA
NATIONAL AMATEUR CUP: REGION I TOURNAMENT The incredible run came to end yesterday
in Baltimore. The Fan Rats lost to Jerry D's of Baltimore 2:3 in overtime and are eliminated
from the USASA National Amateur Cup. The Rats made a valiant run, having leads of 1:0 and
2:1 before succumbing in overtime. Hats off, as this team made it further than any team in
CVSA history, becoming the first Richmond area team to represent the MDCVSA at the regional
level.

06/21/04 - MDCVSA STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS:
As an appetizer to the Fan Rats v. Lighthouse SC match, the Rat Masters took on FCS Corinthians
of Fredericksburg on Sunday, June 6 in a group play game for the MDCVSA Challenge Cup. The Rats opened the
scoring with a deserved penalty kick, and went up quickly 3:0. The old men finished strong in the
second half to complete a solid 5:1 victory. However due to an illegal player on the roster the Rat Masters
forfeitted the match. Play continued this past weekend with the Rat Masters defeating rival Edo's Squid
2:1 (funny how those guys don't talk as much trash when they get beat), and then thrashed an undermanned
Poe's Pub Ravens 8:1 to claim 2nd place in Challenge Cup Group "B". In the semifinals the Rat Masters
faced local tattletales BlackWatch AARP. In a role-reversal it was the Rat Masters that acted like
rednecks, getting three men sent off and a deserved 1:4 beating and finishing in 4th place overall
in the 2003-'04 MDCVSA Challenge Cup.
